To create many of the same effects as pin curls, you may also utilize rollers. Rollers have many advantages over pin curls.
Rollers: CHI Magnetic Rollers, Halo by CHI Induction Rollers and CHI Ceramic Induction Heat Platform Rollers
The size of the roller, size of the base, and position of roller on the base determine the amount of volume that will be achieved. The larger the roller, the greater the volume you will have in your style.
There are three types of bases.
On base
Roller sits directly on its base for full volume. Over direct (past the 90 degree angle) the section of hair slightly in front of the base and roll the hair down to the base. The roller should be completely on the base.
Purpose: maximum volume at the root area
Half base
Roller sits halfway on its base and halfway behind the base for medium volume. Hold the section of hair at a 90 degree angle (straight up) from the head and roll the hair down.
Purpose: medium volume at the root area
Off base
Roller sits completely off the base for the least volume. Hold the section of hair at a 45 degree angle down from the base and roll the hair down.
Purpose: less volume at the root area
