Step 1: Begin by sectioning the hair into three parts, beginning just behind each ear. Two on the sides/front, and one large section in the back.
Step 2: Section the back part into a top and bottom section and clip the top section up.
Step 3: Begin with the lower back section, back combing the root area with the CHI Turbo Ionic Backcomber Comb to get extra volume on which to build the hairstyle.
Step 4: Once it is backcombed to your satisfaction, gather into a ponytail and unclip the top section.
Step 5: Starting at the lower root area of the top back section, back comb the roots here too to give extra volume at the back and crown.
Step 6: Smooth the outer/top parts of that area over the rest with your comb to minimize frizz, but don’t touch the back-combed area for risk of losing the volume you’ve created. You’re just trying to create a smooth layer over the back combed area. Spray with BioSilk Silk Therapy Shine On Spray for instant silky shine.
Step 7: Take one 1-inch section of hair from the side of the top portion and pull back diagonally over the lower ponytail. Pin to where it falls on the opposite side of the ponytail, then shape the upper area to your satisfaction and repeat with the other side, securing with bobby pins.
Step 8: Move on to the front two sections. Separate into a middle part, and on each side of the part, create an upper and lower section.
Step 9: Back comb each section for volume, then smooth back in the hair’s natural direction, going with the flow of the baby hairs.
Step 10: Smooth these sections back, securing into the large ponytail area and leaving a few tendrils in the front, on either side of the face.
Step 11: Now move on to the ponytail. Section into smaller, 1-inch sections.
Step 12: Wrap the top 1-inch section around finger and clip into a barrel shape. Repeat on top of the first barrel section with 2 lower 1-inch sections of hair and clip.
Step 13: To the right side of the barrel shape, take another 1-inch section of hair, separate it into two parts, and gently twist the entire length.
Step 14: When the length is twisted, wrap around the top of the barrel shaped section, securing at the base and on the other side and pulling gently up to keep the volume. Spray with BioSilk Silk Therapy Shine On Spray and CHI Enviro 54 Firm Hold hairspray.
Step 15: Repeat with the section under that, separating into two sections, twisting, and this time going under the barrel shaped section, and pinning in the other direction so it looks like there is a twist going all the way around the barrel shaped section.
Step 16: Repeat this process with the remaining sections, pulling upward and outward to maintain volume. It should look like a rose shape on the back of the head.
Step 17: When everything is secured, spray with CHI Enviro 54 Firm Hold Hairspray and BioSilk Silk Therapy Shine On Spray and remove the extra pins, leaving only the pins necessary to keep the hairstyle in shape and hiding them as well as possible.
Step 18: Take the CHI Lava 2.0 Hairstyling Iron and move to the front to address the sections on either side of the face. Spray lightly with hairspray and shine spray.
Step 19: Take these small tendrils of hair and lightly curl the ends for slight, romantic, natural waves and a look that is classy but not stuffy.
