If you’re looking to lighten up your clients’ hair color in time for summer, then you’ve come to the right place. We asked Farouk Systems Global Board Artist Anna Cantu just how to get those coveted sun-kissed strands with a blonde blending technique. Take a look at her complete step-by-step using the CHI BOND + Lightener System, a line infused with hemp and aloe vera oils that lift up to 9+ levels without sacrificing its integrity, shine or condition.

Get the Look:
Formula One: CHI Shine Shades 5N + CHI Shine Shades Clear + 10 CHI Color Generator (Mixing Ratio 1:1:1)
Formula Two: CHI Bleach & Shine + 10 Volume CHI Color Generator (Mixing Ratio 1:1.5)
Step One: Apply CHI Bond & Seal. Brush it into the hair for even distribution.
Step Two: Apply Formula One to the roots up to 1–2 inches. Then comb through to the mid-shaft following the natural hairline.
Artist Tip: Leave the fringe are out.
Step Three: Utilizing a smaller brush in the fringe area, make sure to over direct the hair, and apply in the mid-shaft area first. Use your fingers to feather upward to the root area as you buffer in the product.
Artist Tip: In the mid- shaft area, make sure to push in the product with your brush to maximize the lift. Working towards the ends, softly remove excess product on the porous ends.
Artist Tip: Take triangular subsections, and start in the mid-shaft area; this gives you more control.
Step Four: Utilizing a color board, push the product into the hair. Be careful not to over saturate the already porous ends. Apply to the rest of the hair using angled subsections moving down the hair shaft as you go toward the back of the head. Make sure you are focusing on the outer surface of the hair sections.
Step Five: Utilizing a sponge buffer in the shine shades and the Bleach and shine together. This gives a beautiful blended look.
Step Six: After desired level of lift, rinse well. Use CHI Ionic Color Illuminate Platinum Blonde Shampoo and Conditioner. Style as desired.
